Dispute Funding : Legal Masterclass Series

in Partnership with Stephenson Harwood

The funding of disputes by third party investors is a topic that is widely misunderstood. Join Timothy Cooke, partner of Stephenson Harwood and Tom Glasgow, Chief Investment Officer (Asia) of Omni Bridgeway, as they explore how third party funding works and examine some of the possibilities and benefits that funding offers; not just for the dispute being funded, but also for a party's wider business needs and goals.

In its simplest form, a third party funder invests in a party's dispute by paying the legal and related costs, in exchange for receiving a percentage of the winnings if said party wins. It can be used as a practical tool to control legal costs and mitigate risks inherent in any dispute.

Dispute funding can also take more a sophisticated form, for example, to mitigate risk across multiple disputes, to provide working capital or other benefits secured against prospective financial recovery.

The speakers will share some of the most popular applications of third party funding which can form part of legal and finance officers' armoury when managing disputes.
