Dr Gershu, a Sri Lankan by birth and a New Zealand Citizen, has over 34 years of International Health Experience. His expertise is in health services planning, population based funding models, strategy development and execution, M&A, project management, turnaround management and clinical operations.
He received his Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Bangalore, India in 1986, and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Otago, New Zealand in 1996. In addition, Dr Gershu graduated in 2006 as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian Medical College of Administrators (FRACMA), Melbourne, Australia.
Prior to joining us in 2014, Dr Gershu held senior executive positions in Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Australia and Indonesia. He was Director of Administration at Thorn Group Private Limited from 1989 to 1992. After completing his MBA in 1996, Dr Gershu joined Southland District Health Board as a Business Analyst and rose to become the Chief Executive Officer in 2001.
While at Southland, Dr Gershu was an active member in a number of National Committees which included National IT Integration, Maori Health Development and Population Based Funding Models.
He also set up a couple of PPP ventures both on the purchase and supply side. In 2006, he worked briefly as Director Medical Services in Hunter New England Area Health Service, New South Wales and then in July 2006 joined Siloam, Indonesia as Group Chief Executive Officer and President Director.
At Siloam, over a 9 year period, Dr Gershu took the 4 Hospital Group to a 30 Hospital Group with an operating revenue of over US $350 million, and successfully listed it on the Jarkata Stock Exchange in September 2013 at a market capitalisation of US $1.8 billion. In 2014 March, Dr Gershu moved to Myanmar to lead Yoma-OUE Healthcare Group. In eighteen months he revitalized and transformed the operation with the existing team, to deliver a positive EBITDA after a 10 year loss making period. In December 2015 the Hospital opened the first ‘Medical Tower’ concept facility in downtown Yangon. Pun Hlaing Hospital, Yangon also became the first and only JCIA hospital in Myanmar in 2017. In addition, plans were solidified for a 10 Hospital expansion.
Also in 2017 the second 75 bed US $12 million hospital in Mandalay opened followed by the successful US $9 million acquisition of a 140 bed hospital in Taungyi in October 2018. In 2020, Yoma-OUE launched its Emerging Health Vertical and also opened its second Medical Tower North of Yangon.

Dr Zaw Win Sandy, was born and brought up in Myanmar and received her Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from University of Medicine (1) Yangon in 2007. She started her career as a Resident House Surgeon at Yangon General Hospital in 2006.
After completion of her Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a specialization in talent management including workforce planning, recruiting, performance management, employee development and employee engagement from James Cook University (Australia) in 2009, she joined as a Clinic Operating Manager at City Health Clinics chain in Singapore.
In 2011, Dr Sandy decided to come back home and took up a role as Customer Relation Manager at Pun Hlaing International Hospital. She rose through the ranks to be appointed as the Interim Talent Management Director in 2014. Subsequently in 2015, she was promoted to Talent Management Director of the new Pun Hlaing Siloam Hospitals joint venture.
In this role, she was responsible for Manpower Planning, recruitment and retention, career development and general HR. In addition to this role, she also led the hospital operation on CRM, Patient Experience and Front Office service.
In January 2019, Dr Sandy was promoted to head of the flagship Hlaing Tharyar Hospital operations in addition to her group role in charge of Social Media and CRM.
In May 2020, Dr Sandy was promoted to head the new vetical of Emerging Healthcare, an exciting business and operational proposition designed to the traditional brick and mortar operations with the ubiquitous virtual platform. This vertical would set PHSH to drive its reach across the country using its existing infrastructure, and amalgamated to preferred suppliers, both in the primary and secondary sector. As COO of this vertical, Dr Sandy envisages to help PHSH grow to become the largest healthcare network in Myanmar within the next 5 years.
Mr. Henry Maw, a Myanmar citizen by birth, lived in Singapore and received his Bachelor of Commerce (Management Specialist) from the University of Toronto in Canada, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Thai Chamber of Commerce in Thailand.
He has over 7 years of experience in Corporate Finance with primary engagements in mergers and acquisitions, fund raising, business development, and investment management. Mr. Maw has sector experiences in Healthcare, Infrastructure, and Financial Services.
Prior to joining YOMA Group in 2017 and the recently assigned role to lead the Business Development function at Pun Hlaing Hospitals, Mr. Maw held positions in investment management companies and the Big 4 Advisory firms in Canada and Myanmar.
He was a Consultant at a management consulting firm in Toronto, Canada and a Senior Associate of the Deal Advisory team at KPMG in Myanmar. During his tenure at KPMG Myanmar, Mr. Maw was involved in leading a market entry feasibility study for a private hospital in Myanmar as well as executing various sell-side vendor assistance initiatives for several multinational conglomerates in Myanmar.
In 2017, Mr. Maw joined YOMA Group as Managing Associate of Investment and Operations. He was part of the lead working team that successfully executed the US$ 237 million strategic partnership between Philippine’s Ayala Corporation and YOMA Group. Currently, Mr. Maw has been assigned to lead the Business Development function of Emerging Healthcare business vertical under Pun Hlaing Hospitals.
Peter Crowhurst is the Chief Executive Officer of the British Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar, appointed by the Board of Directors to the role in December 2018.
Peter has a wealth of experience, having spent the past thirty years working in Asian Markets. Initially Peter worked in Hospitality at General Manager level, in Hong Kong and China, but moved on into Real Estate, becoming an Asset and Investment Manager with ING. In this role he supported real estate development and investment projects in China and Taiwan. During his time in with ING and latterly CBRE Global Investors, Peter was responsible for portfolios in Taiwan and Singapore, with assets in excess of USD 650 Million.
Peter’s relocation to Myanmar was orchestrated through Yoma Strategic Holdings, whom he joined in 2013 when based in Singapore. Peter moved to Myanmar full time in 2014 as Head of Real Estate Asset Management at Yoma Strategic.
While at the Chamber Peter aims to support British business, together with the UK Government Department of International Trade, bringing investment and trade opportunities to Myanmar. Peter will also focus on developing initiatives, alongside the Chamber team, for bi lateral trade from Myanmar to the United Kingdom. One of the top objectives of such initiatives is job creation and benefits for Myanmar citizens.
Peter was part of the founding team that established the British Chamber of Commerce and has served on the board for the last five years since its inception.
