Peter Beynon
Country Chairman, Myanmar and Cambodia at Jardine Matheson (SEA) Pty Ltd. (Jardines)After graduating from Bristol University, Peter joined PwC’s London office and qualified as an ICAEW Chartered Accountant in 1981 and subsequently embarked on a career in commerce that has focused on family businesses.
Post qualification he spent over 20 years with the Jardine Matheson group working in a number of senior finance and management roles in Asia and the Middle East, including significant periods in Hong Kong, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia and Singapore. He worked as the Finance Director of several listed and private companies during which time he led a number of major corporate acquisitions and the development of joint venture business initiatives in emerging markets.
Peter then embarked on a career in consultancy, leveraging his diverse chartered accountancy skills in international and emerging market environments. He became the first non-family Managing Director of the esteemed Al Fahim Group based in Abu Dhabi in 2005, before joining as a partner of HBG a private equity firm based in Dubai in 2008. In 2012 Peter was engaged and successfully led the expansion and development of the ICAEW Middle East operations in the Middle East.
In 2014 Peter was re-engaged by Jardine Matheson to head the group’s development of its business portfolio in Myanmar and Cambodia.
Peter also holds the position of Chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce Myanmar.
Thompson Chau
Digital and Deputy Business Editor at The Myanmar TImesThompson Chau has been with The Myanmar Times since 2016 and is currently its digital editor and deputy business editor. He is responsible for the paper’s economic, energy and financial news. His bylines have also appeared in the Nikkei Asian Review, News Lens and Asia Times, among other international outlets. He will be speaking in his personal capacity and his views do not represent those of The Myanmar Times.
Thompson is a director of the Myanmar-Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce and Industry and leads their financial services working group as vice chair. He has an MA from Scotland’s University of St Andrews.
Peter Crowhurst
Chief Executive Officer at British Chamber of Commerce MyanmarPeter Crowhurst is the Chief Executive Officer of the British Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar, appointed by the Board of Directors to the role in December 2018.
Peter has a wealth of experience, having spent the past thirty years working in Asian Markets. Initially Peter worked in Hospitality at General Manager level, in Hong Kong and China, but moved on into Real Estate, becoming an Asset and Investment Manager with ING. In this role he supported real estate development and investment projects in China and Taiwan. During his time in with ING and latterly CBRE Global Investors, Peter was responsible for portfolios in Taiwan and Singapore, with assets in excess of USD 650 Million.
Peter’s relocation to Myanmar was orchestrated through Yoma Strategic Holdings, whom he joined in 2013 when based in Singapore. Peter moved to Myanmar full time in 2014 as Head of Real Estate Asset Management at Yoma Strategic.
While at the Chamber Peter aims to support British business, together with the UK Government Department of International Trade, bringing investment and trade opportunities to Myanmar. Peter will also focus on developing initiatives, alongside the Chamber team, for bi lateral trade from Myanmar to the United Kingdom. One of the top objectives of such initiatives is job creation and benefits for Myanmar citizens.
Peter was part of the founding team that established the British Chamber of Commerce and has served on the board for the last five years since its inception.
Thiri Thant Mon
Managing Partner at Pegu Partners (previously Sandanila)Thiri is a founder and Managing Partner of Pegu Partners, a capital and investment advisory firm, and has over 20 years of experience in leading global and Myanmar businesses. Before returning to Myanmar in 2013, she was a capital markets investment banker with Morgan Stanley in London helping institutional clients raise multi-billion dollar financings. Upon her return, she was a member of the executive committee and Head of Corporate Development at Yoma Strategic Holdings. She founded Sandanila, the predecessor to Pegu Partners, in 2015.
Deeply passionate about education, empowerment and the transition of Myanmar into a vibrant member of the global community, Thiri supports initiatives related to corporate governance, institutional capacity building and attracting investment and intellectual capital into Myanmar. She is also the CEO of the Myanmar Institute of Directors and a Steering Committee Member of UK DFID's Business for Shared Prosperity private sector development programme. Thiri serves as a member of the board of directors of Dawn Microfinance and the British Chambers of Commerce Myanmar and is a trustee for several charities including the Yangon Heritage Trust and Turquoise Mountain Foundation, a Prince of Wales Charity.
Thiri holds a degree in Economics from William & Mary and a MBA from the London Business School.
Warren Pain
Director | International Trade and Investment of British Embassy YangonWarren is a career Diplomatic Service officer who has worked in numerous political and trade/economic roles. Apart from home postings at the Foreign Office in London he has had postings in Beijing, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Hanoi and Singapore. He also served in Europe, Africa and the Middle East on short-term duties including a duty in Yangon in 1998. His current focus in Myanmar is improving market access and development in the interests of UK business and shared prosperity. Thematic focus is on Education, Infrastructure, Energy and Financial/Professional Services.
Prior to joining the UK Diplomatic Service in 1992, Warren spent two years training and flying as a civilian light aircraft pilot in New Zealand. He is passionate about aviation and maintains a private pilot’s license.
