Since establishment in 2012, Yangon Heritage Trust (YHT) has played a central role in advocating for protection and proper management of Yangon's extraordinary built and cultural heritage; developing clear and sustainable policy recommendations to make Yangon a livable city as it expands rapidly. YHT has engaged with government, business and civil society, and undertaken specific conservation projects.
Director Moe Moe Lwin and her team will discuss building public appreciation for heritage conservation both in Yangon and throughout Myanmar, working with government agencies on preservation and urban planning, with an update on future plans for conserving and adapting Yangon's unique built heritage within the broader context of sustainable development and improved livability. Attendees will also hear from Ko Thurein Aung, the Yangon Heritage Trust, resident historian.
The Pegu Club provides the perfect setting for a Heritage talk, being a Heritage building established in 1882. The Prince of Wales Great Hall, where the event will be, once hosted Edward the VIII during his tour of Burma and India in 1922.
