Scaling up off-grid businesses through private sector engagement and women empowerment
Almost half of the population is in need of electricity and Myanmar demonstrates a huge potential for different renewable energy technologies but in reality, the progress in the deployment of off-grid electricity systems is at a slow pace. And the sustainability of the projects is skeptical. Common challenges faced by developers are investment cost, policies, and regulations, long-term operation and maintenance, and the productive use of electricity. Women can play a significant role in tackling those challenges on the ground, overcoming the social norm, and improving energy access. Access to energy can help increase economic activities, create jobs, and add value to local products and services. In this webinar, WWF and MREF will talk about enabling the sustainability of the mini-grids and scaling up the local businesses by empowering women
