Growth, Infrastructure and Public Procurement in Myanmar:

Mind the Gap

Myanmar's future economic development will depend on "bridging the infrastructure" gap. The Government of Myanmar's procurement of major infrastructure is the primary driver of investment in the energy, transport and urban sectors. The efficiency and effectiveness of public procurement is critical to delivering much needed growth enabling infrastructure.

The CIG Myanmar team is undertaking a review of public procurement of major infrastructure projects, covering all major procurement over $50 million since 2015, with the aim of identifying what works and what reforms and improvements can be made to accelerate investment, creating new opportunities for private sector participation.

The purpose of the workshop is to share initial findings of the research and ask participants to offer their views and suggestions on improving the infrastructure sector and public procurement. There will be a short presentation followed by an interactive Q and A session where participants will be able to share their thoughts and opinions with the group.
