Celebrating International Women's Day 2023 #Embrace Equity

The Professional Women's Network are delighted to welcome you to our speaker and networking event to recognise International Women's Day which celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women globally.

The theme for this year's IWD is 'Embrace Equity'.

For many years, our discussions have mainly focused on the principle of Equality to drive our career success - but is this enough? Is Equity a fairer principal?

The approach within a framework of Equality is to ensure an individual or a group of people are given the same resources or opportunities – whereas Equity recognises that each person has different circumstances - has started out from a different place - and allocates the resources and opportunities needed for them to reach an equal outcome.

Equity accepts that people don't begin life (or their careers) in the same place – and that circumstances can sometimes make it difficult for everyone to achieve the same goals. Equity means giving everyone what they need in order to achieve equal success.

IN-Equity has historically marginalized communities including women, the disabled and the economically disadvantaged – so when we 'Embrace Equity', we embrace diversity and inclusion and drive success for everyone.

Our speakers will dive deeper into this conversation. Tiffany Dawson – a UK-based coach and STEMinist – in conversation with Zarchi Sawnai will look at ways that women can 'level the playing field' and succeed in male-dominated fields; and Alex Nyi Nyi Aung will share how Unilever delivers Equity both globally and locally.

We follow our presentations with a debate discussing how to develop and implement programs that Embrace Equity - and we invite you to join the conversation!

Our networking will be pool side, and your ticket includes finger foods and two drinks (wine, beer or soft drinks).
