Myanmar has recently undergone a Mutual Evaluation Report (MER), an assessment of the country's compliance with the Financial Action Taskforce (FATF) international standards on Money Laundering. The report was published in September 2018 and the country is now undergoing an observation period to determine if Myanmar will appear on the "Ongoing Compliance" section of the FATF Public Statement - informally known as the "greylist".
The UK has been supporting the development of the Anti Money Laundering (AML), Countering Financing of Terrorism (CFT) regime through the Prosperity Fund, with UK specialist organisation GovRisk providing technical assistance to several government agencies.
Nicolas Le Moignan, GovRisk's lead on that work, will lead an informal discussion on the future of Myanmar's AML/CFT reform.
The briefing will be conducted under Chatham House Rule.
