BritCham Market Focus: Political Risk Management in the ASEAN

Markets are embedded in political uncertainties and dynamics which affect profits, operations and strategies of businesses. Especially in Southeast Asian emerging economies like Myanmar, the risks that a business can accrue from these political uncertainties need to be understood, assessed, mitigated and managed. As such, political risk assessment and management is a fundamental component for sound executive decision making.
This briefing will introduce political risk assessment and management followed by an enumeration and critical discussion into the top political risks in the ASEAN region with specific reference to the Myanmar context. The session will also touch on populism and how it will affect businesses and markets.

I would not say Warwick & Roger is subsumed under the GR industry but from my experience, some players in the industry are moving towards using the social and political science as centerpiece of their services (like W&R) away or in addition to from lobbying, communications, stakeholder analysis etc. In this sense, GR's traditional services has expanded. Maybe "corporate public affairs consulting" is a more apt label for the industry. For W&R, we are primarily a risk management firm that does politics.

I answer from the W&R experience: we bring the tools of political science to a bigger audience and thus put meaning to the title, "practicing/professional political scientist”.
