BritCham Market Focus: New arbitral regime in Myanmar โ business as usual?
Home
On 5 January 2016, Pyidaungsu Hluttaw or the Parliament of Myanmar passed its much awaited Arbitration Law, which follows and gives effect to Myanmar’s ratification of the New York Convention in April 2013. At the request of the Supreme Court of Myanmar, a team at the international law firm Allen & Overy (including the speakers) was closely involved in reviewing the Myanmar Arbitration Bill and has provided training and workshops for the Myanmar government and judiciary prior to and following the implementation of the law.
The seminar will cover: - a brief introduction to the arbitral regime in Myanmar and insights from A&O’s involvement; - practical and commercial considerations when choosing international arbitration with a Myanmar connection; and - a discussion on whether you could end up in the Myanmar courts and whether you would want to.
This seminar is ideal for international investors and large local conglomerates with major contracts.
